L.A. Zoo Vision Plan

After more than 50 years, the Los Angeles Zoo is ready for a season of change. That’s where the L.A. Zoo Vision Plan comes in!

Proposing much-needed infrastructure upgrades and conserving the world’s biodiversity, LANDAU created an animation for the zoo to communicate the zoo’s latest (and best) Vision Plan alternative.

We combined the zoo’s b-roll with our colorful illustrated maps and animations, as well as creating an awesome animated logo. Guided by Tim Day, Aneesha DuBois is the wonderful voice talent behind this project. We also created a Spanish version (Mariano Avila), to be available along with the English video.

You can view both videos in the L.A. Zoo Vision Plan page.

As part of the project, we animated the LA Zoo logo, which they can use in future videos and marketing.

Design

We interpreted the visual design of the zoo’s message and branding, starting with colorful storyboards and ending with integrated animation, music, and voiceover. Having illustrated maps and animated scenes will appeal to families, while b-roll and photos can showcase the strength of the zoo and it’s community. Together, both make a powerful visual statement that is fit for the L.A. Zoo.

We chose to incorporate a colorful and playful graphic style to appeal to a wider range of demographics.

Production

The video has a mix of b-roll (wonderfully provided by the zoo) and text elements as well as animated graphics. Our animator drew illustrative maps and scenes, which are bought into After Effects for the layers to be animated. Our script and audio consultant, Tim Day, handled the music and the voiceover on his end.

We wove many elements together to tell the clearest and most engaging story.
